MARSS completes NiDAR Counter UAS installation on 120+metre superyacht

MARSS has finalised the installation of NiDAR on a new superyacht, and will be completing the installation on the yacht’s 70+ metre support vessel in the coming weeks.

MARSS, a global leader in advanced security and surveillance solutions, has completed the successful installation and crew sign-off of its NiDAR system aboard one of the largest sailing vessels in the world. The work was finished within just six months of securing the $4 million contract for the two installations on the prestigious yacht and its support vessel.

The NiDAR system – known for its comprehensive CUAS (Counter Unmanned Aerial System) and surface surveillance capabilities – has demonstrated exceptional performance during rigorous testing and a successful summer season on board the superyacht.

In a series of unannounced drone flights, conducted by the yacht's security team, NiDAR successfully tracked the drones and provided timely alerts, showcasing its advanced threat detection abilities. Furthermore, the security team was able to track and locate an unscheduled camera drone, as well as identifying both the launching vessel and its pilot.

Another key highlight of this installation is the integration of best-in-class Echoshield radars paired with Aaronia X9 sensors. Combined with NiDAR, they provide industry leading drone detection and tracking capabilities.

Frederik Giepmans, Managing Director MARSS Maritime, comments: "I am immensely proud of our team's collaborative effort in delivering this cutting-edge system in such a short timeframe. This installation, on one of the world's largest sailing yachts, not only demonstrates our technical abilities, but also reinforces our position as an industry leader in maritime security.

“We look forward to wrapping up the project in the coming weeks, as our full attention now turns to the supporting vessel.”

The superyacht’s crew and security team have also praised the system's effectiveness, noting during testing: "We detected more drones today than we ever did with the old system."

These deployments build upon MARSS's strong performance in 2023, which saw the delivery of NiDAR systems to five ships, including three luxury yachts, a legacy yacht upgrade, and the Combat Support Ship, Asterix, for the Royal Canadian Navy.
